A Tunable Inductor with Enhanced-Q based on CMOS Transconductance and its RF applications

This paper describes the Q enhancement of inductor or resonance circuit based on the controlled CMOS transonductance, which is applicable to either on-chip inductor or off-chip inductor. The proposed circuit configuration of high Q enhancement is evaluated for the RF transmit filter of a LTE mobile comm’s micro base station, with the Q factor of over 3000 and the capacity of 10W. A tunable filter is demonstrated by the simulated one by a passive inductor and the controllable transconductance. The tunable inductor with enhanced Q is tested with success for the tunable filter or high-Q RF filter, illustrating the feasibility of linearly controlled CMOS transconductance amplifier to further extended applications of high-Q circuits for RF signal processing and wireless.
